Siemens to supply 88,000m³/d UF pretreatment for Scottsdale

Siemens Water Technologies announced on 14 December 2010 a US$ 7 million contract to supply 11 Memcor CP membrane filtration systems for the City of Scottsdale Water Campus Advanced Water Treatment (AWT) Facility expansion in Arizona, USA.

Under the contract from Archer Western Contractors, Siemens will also provide unit control panels and membrane system programming. System installation is scheduled to be completed by August 2011.

The AWT Facility expansion will help meet the increased water reuse supply demands in Scottsdale for the foreseeable future. The new system will be used as pretreatment to reverse osmosis for treating wastewater that will be used for both aquifer recharge and irrigation of local golf courses.

Each membrane system skid will consist of 222 ultrafiltration membrane modules and will produce a combined total flow rate of 23.5 MGD (88,000 m³/d). The 1.8 m PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) membrane modules increase the filtrate capacity by over 50%, compared with earlier Memcor modules and take up roughly 70% less space than conventional water treatment systems.

With this project, the City of Scottsdale and Siemens continue a long-standing partnership that also included the supply of five Memcor CP systems in 2009 for drinking water treatment.
