One of the many local ballots that took place alongside the US presidential election ended with a large majority of Santa Cruz voters in California winning the opportunity of a future vote on whether to look at a desalination plant for the city’s water supply.
Although the city council had already agreed to put the proposed plant to a vote, the passing of Measure P on 6 November 2013 ensures that this could not be reversed by a future council.
The winning majority was 71%.
