Buchart Horn Inc of York, Pennsylvania, has been appointed architect for a US$ 30 million upgrade to the water treatment plant for Penn State University, probably involving advanced filtration such as reverse osmosis.
A spokesman told the Central Daily Times that the university provides water to 57,000 people a year. Over the past few years, he said, there have been a few incidents causing brief periods of cloudiness in the water, leading to boil water advisories.
Construction is scheduled to start in June 2012 and finish in June 2014. The project will be financed through state capital funding and borrowing.
