Reuse application for two additions to UV range

Two new additions to the Xylem range of medium-pressure ultraviolet (UV) disinfection systems are said by the manufacturer to be particularly suitable for wastewater reuse, as well as fish-farming and swimming-pool applications.

Xylem’s new WEDECO Quadron 600 and 1200 units manage flows of up to 1,350 m³/h and 2,100 m³/h (8.6 and 13.3 MGD) respectively. A standard feature across the range is the OptiCone flow diverter, which promotes ideal hydraulics with very low head-loss regardless of inlet piping conditions.

The series offers a comprehensive proof of performance, as it is validated according to the US EPA’s UV Disinfection Guidance Manual (UVDGM, 2006) and certified to the German / Austrian Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water (DVGW / ÖNORM).

The UVDGM-validated solution can be tailored to meet different requirements depending on the individual water or wastewater treatment situation.

“Only Xylem is able to offer two UVDGM validated solutions,” Mike Newberry, UV product manager at Xylem explains. “The first uses sleeves that block low wavelengths – as also required for DVGW/ÖNORM certification – for applications where certainty of dose delivery is paramount. The second solution uses sleeves that allow all wavelengths to pass for the maximum possible treated flow – in line with current UVDGM guidance.”

“Our solution enables customers to meet possible future updates in the Guidance Manual, whereas safety factors may need to be added to competitors’ designs,” he added.
