Ras Az Zawr to have DAF/DMF pretreatment from Enpure

Pretreatment for the reverse osmosis (RO) section of the world’s largest seawater desalination plant at Ras Az Zawr (or Ras Azzour) in Saudi Arabia is to be by dissolved air flotation (DAF) and dual-media filtration (DMF).

UK-based Enpure Ltd has been awarded the contract for a 1.04 million m³/d pretreatment plant for the RO section of the plant by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Company

The Korean company is undertaking the project for the Saline Water Conversion Corporation.

Enpure sees this award as a major step forward in the application of its Enflo-Vite™ DAF technology, and related work it is undertaking in the desalination market place. Enflo- Vite is a high-rate DAF system that, in the case of Ras Az Zawr, is designed to operate at ~26 m/h (net).

The initial supply programme for the DAF and DMF pretreatment stage includes delivery of a bespoke pilot plant and trials of 6 months or more that are anticipated to start in mid-2011. The full-scale plant is due for completion during 2013.
