The International Desalination Association (IDA) has chosen Operational Aspects of Reverse Osmosis (RO) & Membrane Plants and Mega Projects to be the topics of the next two-day course for the IDA Desalination Academy.
The course will be held on 31 May – 1 June 2014 at the Marina Bay Sands hotel in Singapore prior to Singapore International Water Week (1-5 June).
David H Paul, president of his own high-tech water treatment training and consulting firm, and Dr Boris Liberman, chief technology officer and vice president membrane technology for IDE Technologies Ltd, will lead the courses.
David Paul’s course on operational aspects will deal with the common problems that occur, and the effective ways to solve these. The information is based upon the instructor’s 36 years of operating, managing, training and consulting experience at hundreds of plants.
Boris Liberman’s look at mega-size RO plants will discuss their design, including the Pressure Center in Ashkelon, Hadera and Soreq Plants, and the 16-in vertical membrane arrangement in Soreq plant. It will cover the following topics:
· Green design of RO plants. Desalination without chemicals.
· New Design of Continuous Backwash Filter
· Recovery of Osmotic Power from SWRO brine, and Osmotic Power Generation (Ocean-River)
· Challenges in Osmotic Power Generation, and ways to solve them
