Mexican desalination plant could be funded in 2011

Resources could be assigned in 2011 for a 17,280 m³/d desalination plant at Guaymas on the Gulf of California in Mexico.

Construction of the plant, subject to a technical feasibility study, was agreed at a meeting of the governor of Sonora state, Guillermo Padrés Elías and the director general of the National Water Commission (Conagua), José Luis Luege Tamargo, and announced by Conagua on 11 November 2011.

The project would improve the quality of life for the residents of the coastal municipalities of Guaymas and Empalme.
