Mekorot looking for Ashdod investors

Private investors are being sought by the Israeli national water company Mekorot to take a 40% stake in the planned 274,000 m³/d Ashdod desalination plant, for which it has just been given full responsibility by the Israeli government.

Mekorot made the announcement on 25 January 2009 ahead of the publication of the invitation to tender.

Mekorot originally conceived the project as a turnkey contract. Instead, Giora Gutman, CEO of Mekorot Enterprises, said that the company might offer a partnership of up to 40% of the franchise for the sale of water to the state and operation of the plant.
