The Middle East Desalination Research Center (MEDRC) is to stage a side event at the 6th World Water Forum, which takes place in Marseille, France, on 12-17 March 2012.

Titled A Platform for Regional Cooperation in Desalination and Water Reuse, the event will take place under the Mediterranean Cross Continental Process, Priority 2, Non Conventional Water Resources. It is scheduled for 13:15-14:15 on 14 March 2012.

A panel from the Israeli, Jordanian and Palestinian water authorities, with a representative from the US State Department and the MEDRC director and deputy director, will discuss:

  • Integration of non-conventional water resources
  • Benefits of regional cooperation
  • The International Desalination Association (IDA) has also organized a session on 14 March 2012 (14:30-16:00) titled Desalination: The Sustainable Solution And Hope For Future Generations.

IDA’s new Energy Task Force (ETF) will present this session aimed at reducing energy consumption in desalination and developing guidelines for reduction of energy in desalination processes, both thermal and membrane, with the specific goal of achieving a 20% energy reduction in desalination by 2015. The ETF will also investigate the use of hybrid processes and alternative energy sources in desalination.
