The Marin Municipal Water District voted on 16 November 2011 to appeal a judicial ruling that an environmental impact report (EIR) for its possible seawater desalination project was flawed, which effectively stopped the project.
Marin Superior Court Judge Lynn Duryee ruled in August 2011 that the EIR had failed to describe properly the 5-10 MGD (18,900-37,850 m³/d) SWRO project’s environmental setting and to assess fully its impact on marine species.
Several parties led by the North Coast Rivers Alliance had brought the challenge to the EIR.
