March tender for Dubai’s 545,000 m³/d Hassyan desalination plant

Originally tendered in June 2008, the much-delayed 120 MIGD (545,000 m³/d) Hassyan desalination plant, with its associated 1,500 MW power station, is to be tendered in March 2011, the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority announced on 27 February 2011.

“We will float a tender in March and we expect to commission (the plant) in three years by 2014. There has been good interest shown from local and regional developers,” Dewa’s managing director and chief executive officer, Saeed al-Tayer, told Zawya Dow Jones in Dubai.

The complex, which is to be implemented as an independent water and power project, is due to be built near the Abu Dhabi border and will use natural gas.
