Mann+Hummel installs PES membrane production lines

Four new production lines for polyethersulfone (PES) membranes have been added to the Singapore plant of Mann+Hummel and an extension is already being planned.

Mann+Hummel plans to use the PES hollow fibres for new application areas within its water business, such as the food and beverage industry and in the field of biotechnology.

In the field of beverages and biotechnology, fouling (deposition) due to filtered substances is common. The cross-flow flow guidance of the PES hollow fibre acts against this. It generates a cross-flow along the membrane with high speed and automatically carries the fouling products with it.

Mann+Hummel uses PES membranes and a new skid design in ultrafiltration systems like its Klar-series. The Klar-series is suitable for the treatment of process and service water for small rural communities, towns and villages, hotels and resorts and also for the treatment and recycling of industrial process and waste water.

It removes foreign particles, and bacteria with a turbidity of less than 0.1 NTU. Maintaining the turbidity under 0.1 NTU means that the system delivers a consistent supply of fresh, clean water on time and every time.

It filters a variety of suspended solids and has a bacterial removal rate of 99.999 %. In addition, the Klar-series does not employ any water purification chemicals for the filtration process, thus ensuring a high-quality supply of process and service water.
