Three major Japanese companies have launched a joint venture to challenge European companies for major contracts in the international water sector, including desalination, reuse and purification.
Ebara Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation and JGC Corporation have agreed that Mitsubishi and JGC will each acquire a 33.3% share of Ebara’s wholly-owned Ebara Engineering Services Co (EES), thereafter giving the three shareholders equal management of the subsidiary.
EES has engineering expertise in water business and has built up expertise and a Japanese network in the operation and maintenance of water supply and sewage systems. Mitsubishi possesses a global network as well as expertise in business management and financing, while JGC has a proven track record in global engineering and project management.
Ebara says that this joint venture is the first step in a strategy to grow a competitive Japanese consortium in the global water market, leveraging each partner’s advanced technologies and business capabilities.
