Cape Verde is reported to be looking to Japan for funding for a 40,000 m³/d desalination plant on the island of Santiago.
According to the country’s Aseman news site, an 18-month feasibility study by consultants working for the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has just been completed and the results presented José Brito, Cape Verde’s foreign minister.
Noting that the US$ 226 million plant could be completed by 2020, Brito indicated that the Cape Verde government would soon start negotiations with Japan to obtain funding for its implementation.
JICA has also been funding a technical and economic feasibility study of the electricity networks of several islands, including Santiago. The project will ensure stable supply of drinking water and provision of power services to educational, health and other facilities
