Spain’s OHL Medio Ambiente Inima (Inima) has been awarded a contract for the design, construction, finance and operation and maintenance of a seawater desalination plant in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
The El Salitral plant will produce 7.88 million m³/year and is expected to begin operating by the end of 2013.
Luis González Serrano, concessions and international director for INIMA, told D&WR that the contract will be performed under a concession regime lasting 20 years by a special purpose company 100% owned by Inima. The plant will allow Inima to cash Pesos 2,651.9 million (around € 150.8 million).
Mexico is a key axis for the international development of Inima, said Serrano, and the Ensenada plant consolidates the company’s leadership position in Mexico following its concessional operation of the Los Cabos seawater desalination plant in Mexico which began four years ago.
