India’s Ministry of Shipping has instructed ports at Paradip, Kamarajar, and Chidambarnar to install containerised desalination plants, reports Business Standard.
The ports, which run north to south down India’s east coast, have been directed by India’s Minister for Shipping and Water, Shri Gadkari, to introduce containerised reverse osmosis facilities of around 13,000 m3/d.
The new water supplies are expected to provide domestic drinking water supplies to nearby areas, as well as to support the port and related industries.
The order came at a meeting of port chairmen convened by Gadkari.
