IDE Technologies Ltd announced on 10 March 2014 that it had sold two IDE horizontal mechanical vapor compression (MVC) evaporators to increase the produced water treatment capacity of a steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) production site in Northern Alberta.
Purchased by a large oil and gas company, focused on in-situ projects, IDE‘s evaporators will process and treat de-oiled produced water to continuously supply high quality distillate.
The feed water will be used for drum boilers, generating steam for injection to recover bitumen at the SAGD site. The prefabricated evaporators will be shipped to the site after full pre-assembly and testing, reducing the required scope of site construction, hence saving time and reducing costs.
The low footprint and operator friendly mechanical design of IDE’s evaporators provide ready access to key components, as well as improved safety for operation and maintenance personnel. In addition, the evaporators are equipped with a unique removable tube bundle feature that significantly simplifies de-scaling and cleaning operations and reduces associated downtime production losses.
“Over the last two years, IDE has been striving to increase its presence in the oil sands market in Alberta, bringing close to 50 years of water treatment success and proven horizontal evaporators to this market. With this project, we look forward to expanding our presence in this key market,” said Avshalom Felber, CEO of IDE Technologies.
