ERI pressure-exchangers for Spanish desalination plant

The 50,000 m³/d Marina Baja-Mutxamel seawater reverse-osmosis desalination plant currently under construction near Alicante, Spain, is to be fitted with PX-260 energy-recovery devices.

Selected by project contractor Degrémont, the pressure-exchangers from Energy Recovery Inc (ERI), will greatly reduces energy consumption and overall costs.

Once running, the Marina Baja-Mutxamel facility will save an estimated 1,761 kW of energy and offset approximately 9,000 t of CO2 annually using the energy-recovery devices.

Borja Blanco, ERI senior vice president, said, “This is Degrémont’s fourth mega-scale desalination plant using our PX technology, underscoring our customer satisfaction and technical capabilities in the water industry.”

The project aims to supply the present and future water resources demands of the municipalities of San Vicente del Raspeig, San Juan de Alicante and Alicante, to counter climate variability. The promoter is the government-controlled Acuamed.
