Singapore’s new 318,200 m³/d Tuaspring seawater desalination plant will use DWEER™ devices to recover energy from the high-pressure brine stream of the reverse-osmosis process.
Flowserve Corporation announced on 31 August 2011 a contract from Hyflux Ltd to manufacture 68 Calder DWEER units to be used in the plant for which a groundbreaking ceremony took place on 5 July 2011.
When operational, the ERDs are designed to achieve an efficiency of greater than 95% and help reduce the energy demands for the membrane feed pumps by up to 60%.
“Flowserve was selected for this project because of our position as a leader in the growing desalination industry, the low total cost of ownership of the Calder DWEER technology and the strong working relationship we developed with Hyflux during Singapore’s first desalination project,” said Tom Ferguson, president, Flowserve Flow Solutions Group.
This is the second major order in a year from Hyflux for Flowserve DWEER units. In August 2010, Flowserve announced an order for the Salalah Independent Water & Power Plant in Oman.
