Biwater wins reuse treatment plant contract in Morocco

UK contractor Biwater has been awarded a turnkey project to design and construct a new wastewater treatment plant in the city of Aourir, a tourist destination close to Agadir on Morocco’s Atlantic coast.
This project is part of the country’s efforts to invest in reuse solutions, which harness wastewater for subsequent applications, and follows Biwater’s successful commissioning of a similar project in Tamuda Bay in the north of Morocco.
At Aourir, feedwater will undergo pretreatment, biological treatment, tertiary treatment including disinfection, and sludge dewatering by solar drying. The resultant water will be used to irrigate the grounds of nearby golf courses and hotels.
Commenting on the project, Sahraoui Abdellah, head of studies and investments for Régie Autonome Multi Services d’Agadir in Greater Agadir, said, “Reuse of water is a priority for us as we consider how we can better serve the people and protect the environment in the Souss region, including its excellent beach resorts. This project will use the latest technologies and treatment processes to meet our needs for wastewater treatment; it also provides a solution to reuse treated water for watering golf courses in the resort town of Taghazout.”
