Cadagua selects PX devices for Al Zawrah desalination

PX energy-recovery devices have been selected for the 45,000 m³/d Al Zawrah seawater reverse-osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant in Ajman, UAE, by the consortium led by Spanish company Cadagua.

The pressure exchangers, manufactured by Energy Recovery Inc (ERI), were approved by Federal Electricity & Water Authority (FEWA), which uses PX devices on other SWRO projects.

Antonio Casado, managing director, Cadagua, said, "Our selection was based in large part on FEWA's satisfaction with the ERI technology. We want to ensure that our plant operations do not experience unscheduled and expensive breakdowns from maintenance shutdowns, and ERI is the company that can guarantee high efficiencies and maximum availability of plant operations."

Cadagua is in consortium with UAE civil contractor ESSA Engineering & Marine Services LLC.

An interview with ERI's CEO, Tom Rooney, will appear in the November/December 2011 issue of Desalination & Water Reuse.
