Bids for Hassyan IPW project expected by October

Bids have been invited from a shortlist of 18 developers for the Hassyan I Independent Power & Water Project in Dubai, which will include a 120 MGD (454,000 m³/d) seawater desalination plant.

Officials from the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) are to visit Europe and Japan next month to propose the US$ 1.5 billion project, which includes a 1,500 MW power station, to financiers.

Offers are expected to be in by October 2011 from a qualified list that includes France's GDF/Suez, Japan's Mitsui, Korea Electric Power Corporation and Abu Dhabi National Energy (TAQA).

The project, which has been tendered unsuccessfully as a public project since 2008, is scheduled to begin operating in 2015.
