AdelaideAgua, the consortium which is to design, build and operate the 150,000 m³/d seawater desalination plant at Port Stanvac, near Adelaide, South Australia, has selected Energy Recovery Inc’s PX Pressure Exchanger energy-recovery devices for the plant, ERI announced on 5 May 2009.

Environment approval for W. Australia desalination project
Western Australia’s water minister, Dr Graham Jacobs, said on 22 April 2009 that he was confident that conditions under which the Water Corporation had been given state government environmental approval to build and operate the Southern Seawater Desalination Project will ensure the plant will meet all environmental objectives.

Northern emirates to get 30 MIGD desalination boost
The Federal Electricity & Water Authority (FEWA) in the UAE announced on 22 April 2009 the construction of a new 10 MIGD (45,460 m³/d) seawater desalination plant in Ras Al Khaimah, only days before tenders are due in for another reverse-osmosis desalination plant in Ajman.

US districts fight saline intrusion with reused water
Two California water districts announced an agreement on 18 April 2009 to transfer and use recycled wastewater as a barrier against saline intrusion into groundwater, replacing 5.5 billion gallons (20.8 million m³) of drinking water per year previously used for this purpose.
