First Water Standard vessel will use ERI units
Water Standard plans to use the PX Pressure Exchanger energy-recovery device made by Energy Recovery Inc (ERI) in its first Seawater Desalination Vessel (SDV), the two companies announced on 19 May 2009. Florida-based Water Standard builds and operates vessels that deliver desalinated water to clients onshore and to the offshore energy industry.

GE Water and Aigües Ter-Llobregat (ATLL) of Spain announced on 19 May 2009 the opening of the 220,000 m³/d electrodialysis reversal (EDR) brackish water desalination plant on the Llobregat river.

ERI wins Adelaide desalination energy-recovery contract
AdelaideAgua, the consortium which is to design, build and operate the 150,000 m³/d seawater desalination plant at Port Stanvac, near Adelaide, South Australia, has selected Energy Recovery Inc’s PX Pressure Exchanger energy-recovery devices for the plant, ERI announced on 5 May 2009.

Cambria desalination will bring environmental benefit
The US Army Corps of Engineers announced on 28 April 2009 that it will receive US$ 2.5 million in funding through the new American Recovery & Reinvestment Act to develop the Cambria desalination project north-west of San Luis Obispo in California.

Calder bought by Flowserve
US pump and valve manufacturer Flowserve announced on 21 April 2009 that it acquired Swiss desalination energy-recovery system provider Calder AG. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

US govt to invest US$ 135 million in water reuse
The US Department of the Interior announced on 15 April 2009 the investment of US$1 billion under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) in America’s water infrastructure to create jobs and get the economy moving again. Of this, US$ 135 million is available for grants for water reuse and recycling projects.

ERI to supply 75,000 m³/d Venezuelan desalination plant
Spanish EPC contractor Acciona Agua has awarded Energy Recovery Inc (ERI) of the USA the energy-recovery technology contract for the 75,000 m³/d (20 MGD) Paraguana desalination plant in Venezuela.

Water-reuse funding may be used to counter drought
The US Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar on 26 February 2009 called on the Bureau of Reclamation to explore ways in which funds recently appropriated to Reclamation under the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act for water reuse and other water projects might be used to help stretch California’s water supplies in the coming months.

ERI appoints two new directors
Energy Recovery Inc, the California-based desalination energy-recovery technology company, announced on 25 February 2009 the appointment of two new directors: Stanford University professor Dr M Elisabeth Pate-Cornell and Jackalyne Pfannenstiel, former chair of the California Energy Commission (CEC).
