Wave-powered desalination plant to produce bottled water
The Texas General Land Office has granted the first-ever state offshore wave-energy lease to Texas-based Renew Blue Inc (RBI), who will use ocean water and waves to produce 3,000 gal/day (11,350 L/d) of bottled desalinated water.

First Water Standard vessel will use ERI units
Water Standard plans to use the PX Pressure Exchanger energy-recovery device made by Energy Recovery Inc (ERI) in its first Seawater Desalination Vessel (SDV), the two companies announced on 19 May 2009. Florida-based Water Standard builds and operates vessels that deliver desalinated water to clients onshore and to the offshore energy industry.

ERI appoints two new directors
Energy Recovery Inc, the California-based desalination energy-recovery technology company, announced on 25 February 2009 the appointment of two new directors: Stanford University professor Dr M Elisabeth Pate-Cornell and Jackalyne Pfannenstiel, former chair of the California Energy Commission (CEC).

Second floating plant for Cyprus comes closer
Three companies are said to be shortlisted for a project to build a floating desalination plant to supply the southern coastal town of Limassol, according to Sofoklis Aletraris, head of Cyprus’ Water Development Department, quoted in the Financial Mirror on 11 January 2009.
