US water and wastewater may get US$ 11.8 billion boost
Water reuse measures totalling US$ 126 million to be undertaken by the Bureau of Reclamation are one of a number of measures included in the US$ 825 billion economic recovery legislation proposed by the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee on 15 January 2009, which is also likely to benefit upcoming desalination projects.

The Aus$ 3.1 billion (US$2.2 billion) seawater desalination plant for Melbourne, Australia, passed a significant hurdle on 9 January 2009 when Victoria state’s planning minister, Justin Madden, accepted all but one of the 42 recommendations of an independent inquiry into the project.

Australian government to fund desalination projects
Guidelines for the Australian government’s plan to fund large-scale infrastructure projects, including desalination, to help cities and towns meet future demand for water were published on 7 December 2008 by the Treasurer, Wayne Swan, and the Minister for Climate Change & Water, Senator Penny Wong.
