Besix signs with Sharjah to expand water reuse

Besix has signed a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement with Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), to operate and maintain an existing wastewater treatment plant at Al Saja.
The agreement creates new joint venture company Qatra, whose goal is to develop and expand wastewater infrastructure in line with the emirate’s masterplan. The contracted works include doubling capacity of recycled water at the Al Saja plant from 30,000 to 60,000 m3/d, mainly for industrial use.
“This unique project in collaboration with Sharjah and Shurooq incorporates innovation, technology, the environment, sustainability, and water,” said Besix Middle East executive vice president Olivier Crasson.
The new partnership would bring benefits for Sharjah’s “ecology and economy,” added Shurooq executive chairman Marwan Al Sarkal.
Besix has an established track record in construction in the United Arab Emirates, including for its work on Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, and the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi.
Jebel Ali project is a new direction for DEWA and Besix (June 2018)
