ZeeWeed 1500 UF module will pretreat desalination

The introduction of the ZeeWeed 1500 pressurised ultrafiltration (UF) membrane system was announced by GE Water on 16 March 2009.

The new skid-mounted module can be rapidly installed for water treatment, tertiary filtration and pretreatment for brackish and seawater desalination. It is available for small- and medium-sized packaged and custom designs for municipal and industrial plants.

Key features of the ZeeWeed 1500 include:

  • Low-fouling polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane chemistry offering lower frequency and less aggressive cleaning;
  • Outside-in filtration process providing uniform flow distribution and solids loading with no blocked hollow-fine fibers;
  • UF barrier to produce high quality effluent;
  • High solids tolerance, with the ability to handle high turbidity spikes and coagulant doses;
  • Lower chemical usage than comparable systems;
  • Compact module and simple rack design, with on-rack inspection capability;
  • Ability to retrofit other outside-in UF and microfiltration systems.
  • The ZeeWeed 1500 also offers similar environmental benefits to previous ZeeWeed products such as high water-recovery and reduced plant footprint. It is available in standard and custom designs.
