Filtration system manufacturer, Wigen Water Technologies, has won a contract to supply ultrafiltration (UF) systems for the City of Santa Barbara’s El Estero wastewater treatment plant in a North American first.
Wigen’s 15 Ml/d Spectrum Series universal rack system will be used in recycling water for non-potable applications to reduce demand on the Santa Barbara’s drinking water supplies. Design engineer for the El Estero project, CDM Smith, specified the Wigen system to enable the plant to use three different microfiltration or UF modules so the city will not be locked into one supplier for the life of the treatment plant. This is the first large-scale system to be built in North America.
Santa Barbara’s universal UF racks will be supplied with Dow IntegraFlo UF modules but are designed to also accommodate Toray and Hydranautics modules. The plant is scheduled to start up in summer, 2015. “The price of the Spectrum UF racks is very competitive with traditional proprietary systems, “said president of Wigen Water Technologies, Jeff Wigen. The Spectrum series was launched last year and accommodates at least five different UF modules said Wigen.
The Spectrum UF rack system is designed so that spool pieces can be interchanged on the header system to accommodate different size membrane modules, varying port locations and connection sizes.
