Patented vented RO seal-carrier introduced

US desalination membrane manufacturer Nitto Denko/Hydranautics has introduced a vented seal-carrier design for all reverse-osmosis membrane elements, which prevents pressure shocks to the element shell and reduces element burst risk.

The design incorporates a series of vents, or notches, in the anti-telescoping device (ATD) that releases air trapped between the membrane element and the pressure vessel, preventing a pressure difference around the elements from occurring. Without this release, the buildup of differential pressure can result in element bursting.

Minoru Kikuoka, head of Nitto Denko’s Global Membrane Division, said, “This patented seal-carrier design is unique to Nitto Denko/Hydranautics. No other membrane manufacturer can use the vented ATD design without infringing on our global patents. So that we can continue to provide our customers with the new, innovative, technology they need, we will vigorously protect our patents against any company that uses this design.”
