BHEL and GE tie up Indian treatment/desalination pact

India’s Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has signed a manufacturing associate agreement with GE to jointly engineer and supply membrane-based water treatment and desalination equipment for the Indian market.

Over the term of the agreement, through joint working, BHEL will acquire the capability to address large water treatment systems based on GE Products, on its own.

The agreement covers membrane-based technologies like reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, electrodialysis and electrodeionisation, which will enable BHEL to offer more value- added products to its customers. This partnership with GE India Industrial Pvt Ltd will help BHEL provide more cost-effective membrane-based water treatment systems for boiler make-up water, services water and potable water, required in power plants from water sources such as seawater, brackish water and wastewater.

The desalination products covered under the agreement will be used for power plants (non-nuclear), industrial application, potable water and municipal desalination plants.
