Tesla’s manufacturing processes produce high volumes of wastewater that is concentrated with sodium and sulphate ions. Disposing of it can be costly.

The patent — System for Regenerating Sodium Hydroxide and Sulfuric Acid from Wastewater Stream Containing Sodium and Sulfate Ions — describes a new way to handle it. The system includes an electrolysis treatment system, and three membrane concentration systems, configured in a series of chambers.

The technology is a system that recycles wastewater for reuse in the manufacturing process.
