Researchers win funding for study of microbes in water reuse system
The University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV) has won a US$ 330,000 grant to study the risks associated with microbes in water reuse systems. The award is part of an initiative in which five US research institutions have received a total of US$ 3.3 million in funding the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to study human and ecological impacts from water reuse and conservation.
This research is, according to EPA Pacific Southwest Water Division director, Tomás Torres, especially critical to Western states, where climate change, drought and population growth are putting a strain on the water supply. "The research UNLV will be doing can help advance the role that recycled water plays in meeting our long-term supply needs," said Torres.
