Qatar agrees funding for Ras Abu Fontas MSF plant

A financing package worth US$ 450 million for the A2 desalination plant at Ras Abu Fontas has been finalized by the Qatar Electricity & Water Co, the company announced on 26 September 2013.

The 36 MIGD (160,000 m³/d) of desalinated water produced by the multi-stage flash plant will be supplied to KAHRAMAA, the national power & water grid operator, for 25 years.

A consortium of Mitsubishi Corporation and Toyo Thai Corporation Public Company Limited is building the plant, which is expected to be commissioned in June 2015.

The financing was achieved without foreign lenders via Qatar National Bank (US$ 180 million), Barwa Bank, Masraf Al Rayan and Qatar Islamic Bank, who each took on an equal share of the balance.
