CH2M Hill poised for Kalba desalination mobilization

Civil work on the 3.0 MIGD (13,368 m³/d) Kalba seawater reverse-osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant in the United Arab Emirates has almost been completed by the Sharjah Electricity & Water Authority (SEWA).

The desalination construction team from CH2M Hill is poised for mobilization in the very near future.

The plant, on the Gulf of Oman, is one of three SWRO projects CH2M Hill is completing for SEWA. The other two, Layyah and Khor Fakkan, began exporting desalinated water in October 2008.

Kalba will have a single-pass RO system with ultrafiltration pretreatment and ERI pressure exchangers. It is scheduled to come online in the middle of this year.
