A financing agreement Tuesday to build and operate the Ashdod desalination plant in Israel for 25 years was signed on 13 December 2011 by a subsidiary of state-owned national water company Mekorot.
The plant will supply 100 million m³/year of water from the end of 2013 – around 15% of total household water consumption in Israel, the Finance Ministry said.
At the signing ceremony were finance minister Yuval Steinitz and national infrastructure minister Uzi Landau.
