RPS supported a design and build project including the remediation of an existing landfill (GE)

Conceptual remedial measures were which fed into Quantitative Risk Assessments by RPS to address both controlled waters and gas risk.  From this cost assessments were prepared for the various remedial options, including long term maintenance costs for the client to make an informed decision on their preferred remedial solution.   Post decision the preferred option was discussed and agreed with the regulatory bodied.

The remedial design agreed was to omit the need for a containment wall and associated leachate collection system, originally proposed, on the basis that attenuation could be achieved through a cap alone.  The was agreed with the Planning Authority and Environmental on the basis of both need and environmental benefits associated with a controlled natural attenuation solution. As a result the design saved the client in the order of £4 million plus significant lifetime maintenance costs as against the original design promoted prior to RPS’ involvement.
