Port of Corpus Christi kicks off permitting process for desalination plant

The Port of Corpus Christi, Texas, has applied for a permit to develop a desalination plant on its land, reports Caller Times.
The request was submitted to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the body responsible for granting such permissions. It is the first step in what is likely to be a lengthy process that could pave the way for a desalination project.
The Port of Corpus Christi is exploring options for desalination with a view to ensuring uninterrupted supplies of water for industries in the locality.
In January 2018, Port commissioners voted to bid for a desalination plant that was up for sale following the bankruptcy of plastics manufacturer M&G Chemicals, but the offer was unsuccessful.
