Membrane Technology & Desalination

Biwater (known then as Ames Crosta Babcock), built its first reverse osmosis plant back in 1971. However, it was only once the process gained widespread acceptance that major schemes such as Buwayb, Saudi Arabia were built. When the Buwayb plant was commissioned, it represented 10% of the world’s reverse osmosis capacity. We were also pushing boundaries with the first seawater reverse osmosis plant built in the Canary Islands in 1986, and now have over one million cubic metres per day of installed capacity.
