The International Desalination Association (IDA) has signed a memorandum of understand (MoU) with Greening the Islands (GTI), an organisation dedicated to supporting island energy and environmental practices.
The agreement is to promote GTI Observatory, a structured research and analysis initiative on energy, water, and mobility for island communities. The project aims to map sustainable and innovative solutions, as well as costs, providing information and networking to support planning. IDA will promote GTI Observatory’s results, and will participate on the project’s scientific committee.
“Using renewable energy to power desalination can help to support sustainable, environmentally friendly water projects for people in remote and island settings around the world. We look forward to collaborating and helping to advance mutual goals,” said IDA secretary general Shannon McCarthy.
“Islands need energy and water supply solutions. Innovative environmental solutions tested on islands can be replicated in isolated places worldwide,” said GTI director Gianni Chianetta.
GTI in 2018 launched a mobile app that facilities global knowledge sharing and networking between professionals in industry and government about island projects. GTI Observatory will monitor island projects and development opportunities in the energy and environment sectors, and will share best practices; develop tools for technical, economic, and feasibility assessment of projects; and provide updates on financing opportunties.
