Gradiant China to target industrial ZLD and wastewater market

Gradiant Corporation has established Gradiant China to provide industrial wastewater solutions and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) technology to the Chinese market.
Jason Tao Yu has been appointed as managing director of Gradiant China, which will be based out of a head office in Shanghai.
The move builds on Gradiant’s success in China, including installing its first Carrier Gas Extraction (CGE) system at a coal-fired power plant northwest of Shanghai. The system, which treats highly contaminated flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) wastewater, produces fresh water for reuse in the plant at a recovery rate of more than 90 per cent, helping the plant operator fulfil stringent new wastewater disposal requirements.
“Bringing ZLD to life in Jiangsu at a coal-fired power plant marks a major step forward to support China’s industrial sector. We look forward to further commercialising Gradiant’s technology for wastewater treatment under Jason’s leadership,” said Gradiant chief executive Anurag Bajpayee.
Gradient’s CGE system is an evaporator alternative that mimics the natural cycle of rain to reduce the cost of treatment, and increase production reliability. “Reliable, cost-effective wastewater treatment technology is in demand across China as the country’s strict environmental regulations for industrial wastewater discharge impact a wide number of industries. The future is bright in China, where there is ample opportunity for innovative wastewater treatment technology to help Chinese industrial facilities to meet ZLD requirements,” said Yu.
The Gradiant China team will provide local leadership, and sales and service personnel.
The move follows on from Gradiant setting up an Indian subsidiary in April 2018.
