Fluence wins Egyptian desalination works through new joint venture

Fluence has won $7.6 million of contracts to supply three Nirobox smart packaged desalination plants to projects owned by Egypt’s Ministry of Housing.

The contracts were awarded to International Co. for Water Services & Infrastructure (IWSI), the Egyptian joint venture company formed by Fluence in H1 2018.

The plants are to be delivered by Q4 2018 and will be fully operational by Q2 2019, comprising 12 Nirobox SW-XL units, and supplying 12,000 m3/d of potable water. Fluence is contracted to operate and maintain the units.

These are compact plants designed to provide localised desalination facilities for remote coastal and river regions. Once commissioned, they are largely automatic and can be operated remotely.

“This is our largest single Nirobox smart packaged plant sale to date. Our fast deployment time played a significant role in the customer’s selection of Fluence for this project. Nirobox SW plants offer substantial reduction in deployment time, in capital and operating costs, and by footprint, compared to conventional plants. We look forward to working on further opportunities through the recently established joint venture,” said Fluence chief executive Henry Charrabé.
