Corporate Responsibility Programme for British Land The impact of Arup's sustainability work with British Land has had far-reaching effects. British Land was market leader (Financial Sector) in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for three years in a row.

As a result, British Land is recognized as a leader in the Corporate

Responsibility field. In 2005, the UK Government’s then Environment

Secretary, Margaret Beckett, highlighted the Sustainability Brief prepared

by Arup for British Land as leading the way in sustainable development.


Arup has been commissioned over a number of years as a Corporate

Responsibility Consultant to British Land, one of the UK’s largest quoted

property companies whose portfolio includes prestigious office

developments such as Broadgate, London and Meadowhall Shopping

Centre, Sheffield.


Arup works in close partnership with British Land and the commission

includes the development of corporate-wide policies, objectives and

targets, and the provision of specialist support to British Land’s property

acquisition, design, construction and management teams. 


The work has involved the development and implementation of a broad

range of initiatives:


·         Corporate responsibility handbook

·         Sustainability briefs for acquisitions, developments and refurbishments

·         Carbon management programme

·         Biodiversity programme

·         Waste management programme

·         Waste audits and energy surveys

·         Travel plans

·         Co-authoring the British Land corporate responsibility report for the past three years.
