Victoria state announces Melbourne water costs
The government of the Australian state of Victoria announced on 26 November 2009 that delivering the Melbourne Desalination Project as a public-private partnership will save Melbourne water users almost Aus$ 1 billion (US$ 915 million) or 14% of the total cost, compared with construction by the state.

Soreq desalination tenders said to have low water price
The three consortia bidding for the Soreq desalination project in Israel have submitted bids of less than NIS 2.50 (US$ 0.66) per m³ of fresh water, according to a report from the Globes financial news source.

Spanish/Israeli JV awarded Ashdod desalination contract
Israel’s national water company, Mekorot, announced on 18 November 2009 that the turnkey contract for the desalination plant in Ashdod had been awarded by its subsidiary, Mekorot Development & Enterprise, to the IVM joint venture of Minrav Holdings Ltd and Spain’s Sacyr Vallehermoso SA unit, SADYT.

Sembcorp-led JV to build Oman power and desalination plant
Singapore’s Sembcorp Industries announced on 23 November 2009 that a joint venture formed between its fully-owned subsidiary Sembcorp Utilities and the Oman Investment Corporation (OIC) has won a 15-year contract to supply power and water to the government-owned Oman Power & Water Procurement Company.

Christ/Eimco merger starts in December
The process of combining Christ Water Technology AG (CWT) with Canadian company GLV Inc’s water treatment group, Eimco Water Technologies (EWT), will commence early in December 2009 after the management of GLV announced on 17 November 2009 that it had acquired 80.5% of the voting shares of in a voluntary takeover bid.
