Solar panels commissioned at UK desalination plant
Thames Water in the UK at the end of July commissioned a 450 kW array of solar panels at its 150,000 m³/d Beckton brackish-water desalination plant as part of a bid to become Britain’s biggest on-site solar power producer and industrial user.

GDF Suez looking to sell Al Hidd power/desalination stake
French energy group GDF Suez was reported by Reuters on 28 July 2011 to be planning to sell its 30% stake in Bahrain’s Al Hidd power and desalination plant and has mandated HSBC as an adviser.

Santa Cruz desalination EIS goes on despite alternative study
City of Santa Cruz Council in California, USA, approved another US$ 300,000 payment on 2 August 2011 for consultant URS Corp Americas to continue its work on the environmental impact assessment for a 2.5 MGD (9,500 m³/d) desalination plant for the city.

San Diego IPR demo open to public tours
The public can now tour the City of San Diego’s Water Purification Demonstration Project, which is evaluating the feasibility of using advanced treatment technology to produce water that can be sent to San Vicente Reservoir and later distributed as potable water.
