Background

A Brazilian pulp mill has a reverse osmosis plant for boiler’s make-up water preparation. Due to silica and fouling problems, the pulp mill experienced several complications in the RO plant that end in frequent cleanings and nondesirable stops. The proper functioning of the osmosis is a key

point to keep the quality of the make-up water that is needed in high pressure boiler plant. Objective of the membranes is to produce demineralized water with less than 20 ppb of SiO2.

Objectives

• Stabilization of delta P

• Reduction of cleanings

• Reduction of biofouling deposition in the RO system

• Reduction of Total Operational Cost
