Background

An important food industry, based in Spain and producer of oils and fat, has a two-step osmosis plant for the production of water for their processes.

The RO plant suffered, after several years in operation, decrease in the quality of the permeate water. It is suspected that the continuous use of oxidative biocides could have led to an oxidation of the membranes and the decrease of salt rejection.

Until now, the deterioration of the membranes due to oxidation has been considered an irreversible process, with no other solution than replacing the membranes.

Objectives

• Enlarge life of the membranes

• Restore water quality

• Improve salt rejection
