ADWEA issues RfP for Mirfa power and desalination

The Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA) last week issued a request for proposals from prequalified bidders for its build‑own‑operate extension of power generation and reverse osmosis (RO) water desalination at Al Mirfa.

Deadline for proposals will be 13 February 2013.

The greenfield project will have an expected net power generation of 1,100 MW, in addition to the present 400 MW, and 30 MIGD (136,000 m³/d) RO desalination capacity added to the 23 MIGD (105,000 m³/d) currently installed at the plant.

Developers will be allowed to take on short-term loans to finance just the construction period, in expectation of being able to get cheaper long-term finance later to cover the operation and maintenance period.
