Oasys deal to treat Texas produced water with FO

Oasys Water has struck an agreement with Houston-based Select Energy Services, LLC (SES), a leading provider of engineered water solutions to the oil and gas industry, for exclusive use of its forward osmosis (FO) technology in the Permian Basin in West Texas and New Mexico, USA.

The deal, which will last for two years, follows a six-month pilot using Oasys' Membrane Brine Concentrator (MBC) to treat Marcellus Shale water. This showed that the technology would provide a cost-effective alternative to evaporation.

SES will use the MBC to treat high-salinity produced waters from hydraulic fracturing activities. The MBC uses FO to provide cost-effective reused water, while minimizing the impact on the environment.

"We see the Oasys technology as an innovative alternative for treating high salinity produced water," said John Schmitz, Select's CEO. "The capital cost of the Oasys system gives our customers an effective and sustainable option to offset the costs of deep well injection."

"The results of our recent pilot show that our technology will transform water treatment," said Bob Muscat, CEO for Oasys Water. "We are thrilled to be taking our solution to market and partnering with a company as successful as Select Energy Services, to bring our technology to the oil and gas industry."
