New Mexico city seeking 4 MGD desalination plant

The city of Alamogordo, New Mexico, USA, is looking to use a 4 MGD (15,000 m³/d) desalination plant to provide a safe dependable supply from brackish water wells.

Alamogordo Regional Water Supply Project was approved in January 2010 for several wells north of Alamogordo, located on Snake Tanks Road about 12 miles (19 km) north of Tularosa. A draft environmental impact statement EIS) has now been completed and submitted by the Bureau of Land Management and the city is hoping to have a final EIS by January 2011 and be ready to go with the project.

Quoted in the Alamogordo Daily News, assistant city manager Mark Threadgill said, "The desal will be a phased facility. We don't need all the water right now."
